Spotlights: Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK
He was born in Thessaloniki in 1881. His mother was Zübeyde Hanım
and his father was Ali Rıza Efendi.
In turn, he went to the District School, Şemsi Efendi School, the Thessaloniki High School, the Military High School of Thessaloniki, the War College and the War Academy.
While he was a student in Military Junior High School in 1893, he was named by Kemal for his mathematics teacher.
When the Ottoman Empire was defeated by World War I, the Armistice of Mudros was signed. Upon the commencement of the occupation of the motherland in accordance with this treaty, Mustafa Kemal went to Samsun on 19 May 1919 and started the national struggle.
Mustafa Kemal was elected to the Presidency of the Assembly and the Government on 23 April 1920 with the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
After winning the Battle of Sakarya, he was honoured with the title of Ghazi and rank of Field Marshal.
With the proclamation of the republic on October 29, 1923, Mustafa Kemal was the first President of the Republic of Turkey.
1934 Ghazi Mustafa Kemal was given the surname “Ataturk” by parliament. Turkey have achieved with Ataturk’s reforms that gave rise to the level of the republic of civilized nations.
Republic of Turkey’s founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, closed his eyes to life in the Dolmabahçe Palace on 10 November 1938.
